A recent medical study reveals that one-third of Americans suffer from metabolic syndrome. The figures are equal to roughly 35 percent of US adults.
Metabolic syndrome is a disorder of cluster of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, increased level of blood sugar and high HDL level. Suffering from anyone of these diseases does not indicate that a person has metabolic syndrome. However, two of these diseases are certainly dangerous for health. It doubles the risk of fatal diseases like diabetes and heart strokes.
A team of US researchers closely assessed data of U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The data accumulated between 2003 to 2012 shows that rate of metabolic syndrome has radically increased in last three years. In 2003, the rate of metabolic syndrome patient was 33. However, the current ratio of Americas suffering from metabolic syndrome is 35 percent.
Dr. Robert Wong, an assistant clinical professor at University of California, talks about the issue in detail. He warns that metabolic syndrome is likely to turn into an epidemic soon. The outbreak will put a massive burden on health care system.
Moreover, health experts uncovered that age is directly related to metabolic syndrome. The disorder mostly attack people above the age of 60.
The result of the study is printed in 19th May’s edition of Journal of the American Medical Association.
